About Eliza Duncan, LCSW
Eliza Duncan grew up in San Antonio, Texas, and attended Mt. Vernon College in Washington, D.C. before transferring to The University of Texas in Austin where she met her husband Johnny in 1975. They married in 1978 and have three daughters, Kate, Emily and Lillian.
When Eliza was 29, she realized she had an eating disorder known as anorexia. Eliza coped with this life-threatening illness by increasing her alcohol consumption. Eliza’s drinking continued to escalate until two years and several frightening incidents later, Eliza realized just how
dependent on alcohol she had become. With the support of her family and friends, Eliza took action and got the help she so desperately needed.
Eliza embraced her healing and worked with much vigor and determination to overcome both of her life-threatening diseases, anorexia and alcoholism. She has been sober since December 4, 1985, and has made it her mission in life to help other people recover from the devastating effects of substance abuse.
To help her achieve her goal of helping others overcome chemical dependency, Eliza returned to school and received her Masters in Social Work in 2002 from the University of Houston. She specializes in alcohol and drug addiction with adolescents and adults. Eliza has worked passionately for The Council on Alcohol and Drugs Houston for many years, serving as a board member and as Chairman of the Board.
As a speaker, Eliza is not only a knowledgeable and well-versed expert on mental health, but also an engaging presenter who speaks with passion and understanding.
